Around this time of year, we take time to think about the power of giving and its importance. As Thanksgiving and Christmas come around, this is a good time to talk to your child about why giving back is important.

It is easiest to show the effects of giving to children by example. Below, we have listed some charitable acts you can practice with your child:

    • Donate old clothes that your child has grown out of. Many charities take old clothes like The Salvation Army, Goodwill, etc.
    • Donate canned goods. Especially this time of the year, when there is huge focus on food and hearty meals. Try donating some canned food to charities for those less fortunate.
    • Volunteer at local organizations like a soup kitchen, local church charity, etc. Choosing a day or days for this as a family activity teaches kids about giving back to the community.
    • Recycling and cleaning up in the community. Recycling and making sure our environment is clean and protected is another major way to teach your child about giving our environment the chance to stay clean and survive.
    • Donate some or all of a birthday or Christmas. Another wonderful way to show children the importance of giving is to donate some or all of the money they would use or receive during a birthday or other holiday to a cause of their choosing. Learning to share an important day is a valuable lesson for a child… that part of a celebration is also giving.

There are many more ways you can give back to the community and share these values with your children. Whatever you choose, we hope these ideas will help you and your family learn and participate in the process of giving.

New Mom Making the best choice for infant or toddler care.JPGWhen it is time to go back to work after having your baby or even when your infant has become a toddler, entrusting the care of your child to someone outside of your immediate family is the most difficult decision you can make. This is especially important because at no other stage of your child's life does learning occur so rapidly.

How should you choose an infant care, toddler care or early childhood learning center for your infant or toddler?

Your child will spend many hours during these formative years with caregivers or teaching staff when enrolled in a child care center. Consequently, you should choose a child care center that is aligned with your values and goals.

    1. Is the location easy to access? You may need to consider traffic, driving routes and balancing your family’s schedule with work or other engagements. Does the facility have hours of operation that fit the needs of your busy schedule?
    1. Does the facility accommodate other age groups? If you have more than one child, the convenience of picking up both children at the same place can offer you more quality time at home with less stress.
    1. What is the child care provider’s philosophy? Does the provider believe that children learn best when they feel safe and secure? What special features does the center contain that would reinforce this feeling? How does the provider deal with child illness and behavior? What records does the provider keep to be sure that you are always informed?
    1. Are you able to check on your child? Are the classrooms and interactive play areas equipped with an internet viewing system that allows you to monitor your child remotely through a secure connection?
    1. Is it simply a daycare facility? Does the center have an accredited infant or child care program with curriculum that is specifically written to allow caregivers to provide each child with individual attention and care? Infants should be immersed in a curriculum that invites and promotes multiple opportunities for motor and sensory activities. This will promote cognitive skill development at a faster pace. Does the center have planned activities that invite your child to interact with the environment and to demonstrate eagerness, curiosity, persistence, and problem-solving?

At Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Henderson - Las Vegas NV, our locally owned and operated schools provide the best for your child. We have a state-of-the art facility that offers the latest in early development educational practices and is nationally accredited.

What every Mom needs to know to help her child grow and thrive in daycare and early learning environments.JPGDuring infancy and early childhood, your child develops from a vulnerable newborn into a walking, talking toddler. During this time, mental stimulation is key to helping your child reach developmental milestones, though every child will develop at a different rate. Interaction with family, friends and the environment can provide plenty of stimulation. It is important that your child receives significant attention and activity whether at a daycare or a childcare facility to ensure that the brain develops properly. Mental and physical stimulation play vital roles in helping reach child developmental milestones in each of the following developmental stages:

    • Birth to two months: At birth, your infant is ready to start learning. An infant’s brain has developed almost 100 billion neurons that require stimulation to become active and permanent. By two months of age, your infant’s social-emotional development includes smiling, self-calming behavior (i.e. sucking on the hand) and looking directly at adults. Cognitive development includes looking at faces, following things with the eyes and a short attention span. As your infant begins to respond to sounds, he or she will try to hold up the head and will start to gain more control of arm and leg movements.
    • Four months: At this stage, while learning to enjoy playtime, your child will likely begin to copy facial expressions. You will also start to hear babbling and crying in response to hunger, fatigue or pain. During this developmental stage, your infant will start to reach for toys and objects, will learn to recognize people and will respond enthusiastically to affection. Physical milestones will ordinarily include rolling over and pushing up when lying on the tummy.
    • Six months: The achievements above will begin to be far more pronounced. Learning to interact with adults, your child will begin to distinguish between familiar and strange faces. During this stage, your child will likely be able to sit up without support, roll over in both directions and use his or her legs to bounce when held in a standing position.
    • Nine months: Your child will begin to make limited sounds that are more like speech, will recognize favorite toys, show preference for familiar people and may act shy around strangers. Your child will be able to point to desired objects and pick them up using the thumb and index finger. Playing peek-a-boo is a favorite game at this stage and your child will watch and respond to your hiding objects. He or she may be able to stand with support and crawl.
    • 12 months: Your child may begin to respond to certain requests and to wave goodbye. Fear of strangers and new things is common. Your child will start to recognize the connection between images and words. Mobility can be problematic for you at this stage as your child begins to become mobile and even takes a few steps.
    • At all ages and stages: It is important to remember that each child develops at an individual pace. Not every child will reach the same milestones at exactly the same age. If you have any concerns about your child's development, discuss them with your pediatrician.

At Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Henderson - Las Vegas NV, the exclusive Toddler Big Steps Curriculum™ takes into account that development and learning begin prenatally and continue throughout life. Toddlers are immersed in a curriculum that invites and promotes multiple opportunities for motor and sensory activities. Cognitive skills are developed through planned activities that invite children to interact with the environment and demonstrate eagerness, curiosity, persistence, creativity, and problem-solving. Literacy and language development are nurtured.

Smarter children do not just happen. Child brain development begins with understanding what is going on inside your child's brain. This is why stimulation and activity are so important at home and at daycare during the early preschool years.

Sensory experiences shape and grow your child’s brain. The first five years are the most important years in your child's brain development. Using the five senses to interact with the environment and people will improve your child's brain development, focus and learning. Daily time and attention are the most precious gifts you can give your child. The best learning academies and daycare centers should follow through on that attention with guidance, love, empathy and understanding.

Below is a look at what happens inside your child's brain.

Your child’s brain is made up of different parts and each plays a role in the functioning of the body. These parts include the cerebrum, the cerebellum, the limbic system, and the brain stem.

    1. Cerebrum: This is the largest part of your child’s brain and the most important. It is divided into four sections, called lobes, and is also divided into right and left hemispheres. This part of the brain manages functions that include creativity, problem solving, behavior and intellect.
    2. Cerebellum: Called the little brain, this part of the brain controls body functions such as posture, balance and coordination.
    3. Limbic System: The limbic system contains glands that help your child manage emotions. Also, hormonal responses generate from this part of the brain.
    4. Brain Stem: Referred to as the simplest part of your child’s brain, the brain stem controls all basic life functions, such as the heartbeat, breathing and blood pressure.

Tips for Helping Your Child with Homework.jpg

Almost every kid brings home homework at the end of a busy school day. And oftentimes, once at the comfort of their homes and away from the classroom, a child requires aid in tackling the task in front of them. Many parents have found themselves struggling to help their child with homework for many reasons. Chief among these are having a busy schedule themselves. But also, many parents struggle with remembering concepts from grade school that they last learned many years ago. And as time goes on, teaching methods change so the old ways to tackle a math problem for example, may be different to what your child is learning today. Here are some helpful tips for parents to use to better help their children with homework.

Sit down with you child and read through the assignment. When you actively participate in the assignment with your child, you are involving them and allowing yourself to understand the concept of the assignment.

Find videos and tutorials online. Since the rise of the internet and the need to get information quickly, a lot of online tutorials are now easily available. Some are even free! Check out places like KhanAcademy.org, E-LearningforKids.org, and more!

Use a variety of household objects to display ideas. Some examples of this are using beans to show addition and subtraction by counting out the beans and then taking away or adding a certain number of beans to show the final number. Using paper to mold or even stackable items like cardstock or books to show 3 dimensional shapes, using water to show properties of water, and more can help you show your child the concepts in a way they can easily visualize.

Don’t be afraid to seek help. Sometimes, either because of time or because some concepts are hard to remember, we don’t have the means to best help a child learn or tackle an assignment. Don’t be afraid to look for help yourself. Oftentimes you can check out a book from the public library on the subject. You can then read through it or even read it to your child so you both can learn that concept. Or you can use the internet and have your child learn how to safely search for answers and materials online that will help them learn the new subject matter.

Get a tutor. As they get older, the concepts they learn will get harder and most people’s lives don’t get any less busy. Consider hiring a tutor for those subject areas that you know your child struggles with the most. This way your child is getting help from a source that is specifically knowledgeable in that area, and oftentimes a tutor’s teaching methods and patience may be exactly what your child needs to get comfortable with the subject they are struggling with.

With these tips, homework doesn’t have to be a headache. It’s hard to keep up with every assignment your child brings home but with a little extra help, they and you, will be able to tackle every one!

Creative Ways to Build Your Child’s Vocabulary.jpg

A few months after a beautiful baby is born, parents begin to hear exciting sounds of joy and personal expression. A toddler’s use of words can be adorable and entertaining as your child learns to use new words and communicate. While it’s entertaining to watch a growing toddler use a variation of a word, as a child enters preschool the vocabulary is expected to increase. Better communication and increased vocabulary does not happen automatically. It requires intentional learning and an excellent curriculum in childcare, daycare, or preschool. Parental support is also beneficial. Learning happens in a balanced, loving, and nurturing environment.

At Kids ‘R’ Kids, we understand every stage of learning. Our curriculum is designed to help your child develop through our infant, and toddler programs, to our preschool, pre-k, and after school programs. At Kids ‘R’ Kids, children enjoy lessons designed to increase vocabulary, build better communication, and much more!

We understand the commitment of our parents to complement the learning experience at home. Here are some helpful ways to build your child’s vocabulary through everyday activities at home.

Be a careful listener. It may take time for your child to express himself. Listen carefully and allow your child to take the needed time to communicate.

When speaking to your child, use real words. It may be fun to use “play words,” but as your child learns and grows, take the opportunity to use real words for your child to repeat and understand. While some “play words” are cute, they can be confusing and stifle vocabulary.

Ask plenty of probing questions. Your questions will create opportunities for your child to think, reason, and express himself better.

Encourage your child regularly. Always look for opportunities to affirm and encourage your child. Respond with care and thoughtfulness as your child learns to express thoughts and feelings.

Keep your baby talking and making sounds. Your baby is growing and developing in many ways. Engaging activities, talking, and fun interactions are ways your child learns and develops. Even though your baby may not understand your words, he will recognize your voice and body language.

Read to your child regularly. Choose a fun book appropriate for your child’s age and read regularly. Your child will begin to recognize and repeat words. Also discuss what the words mean.

While Kids ‘R’ Kids provides an excellent preschool learning experience, parents love to join the learning process. These simple steps will support your child’s learning along with our excellent curriculum. Our STEAM AHEAD® curriculum is an integrated project-based curriculum written for students ages three to five, providing them with opportunities to be creative, innovative, and ingenious—learning to use problem-solving skills, critical thinking skills, and best of all, finding the “ah ha” moments in our five core areas of education.

Learn more about the many ways we support your child, with our dynamic curriculum, excellent programs, and qualified teachers and staff. We hope you will contact us to learn more about our commitment to advanced learning, increased vocabulary, and our overall educational success that is far beyond a daycare or childcare.

Chores for Kids Don’t Have to Be a Chore for Parents.jpg

Chores can help children learn responsibility. However, establishing an effective chore system requires some effort from parents. We put together a list of pitfalls for parents to avoid when it comes to chores.

Don’t be stingy with praise. Don’t wait until your child is finished with a chore to praise him or her for a job well done. Encourage your child throughout the process and congratulate progress! Praise is often a better motivator than money.

Don’t insist on perfection. Your child is still learning what “clean” really means, so don’t be hard on him or her when there are still streaks on the window and dust in the corners. And by no means, don’t jump in and do the chore instead of your child. That undermines the whole point of chores!

Don’t make chores boring. Turn on some music or make a game out of it! Laugh and dance as you put away toys, sort dirty laundry, and load the dishwasher. Doing so teaches children that responsibility can be fun.

Don’t wait too long. Some parents think their children are too young for chores. However, there are plenty of age-appropriate tasks even your two-year-old can do!

Don’t be inconsistent. Establishing a chore system for children can feel like a chore for adults. As a parent, remind yourself to remind your child about chores. When you don’t set clear expectations and or follow through, you are communicating to your child that chores are not really that important. If chores are important to you, they will become important to your child.

At Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Henderson - Las Vegas NV, we make sure children are cared for and nurtured in an age-appropriate environment that fosters the process of learning responsibility. We offer programs for toddlers, preschoolers and school-age children that make even chores a fun classroom activity! Contact us in Henderson - Las Vegas today for a free tour.

Young children and even toddlers are surprisingly proficient at using technology. You don’t have to search long or hard before coming into contact with a young child playing with mom’s phone in the grocery store, at a local park, or in the airport. With such a compelling distraction it can be very tempting to just hand a child a tablet or phone to keep them occupied, especially when in public. While a little bit of screen time in your child’s day is by no means detrimental, like every other aspect of parenting it should be done in moderation. Will your child’s brain crumble after watching a few episodes of his favorite cartoon while you do the dishes? No. Does your child’s brain respond differently to screens than to other surfaces or toys? Yes.

It’s important to understand just how impressionable and formative a child’s brain is in the first 5 years of his life. Did you know that those first 5 years will lay the foundation for the rest of your child’s learning capability? Before panicking and throwing away every electronic device in your home, take a deep breath and remember—everything in moderation!

Since this can be a tricky topic to navigate, let’s get practical with 3 ways you can help your child manage his or her exposure to electronics throughout the day.

Avoid using the electronic device as a reward or punishment tool. If the child only gets the tablet when he’s “good,” then you may be amazed at how angelic your child becomes! But if the tablet or phone is taken away before the child is ready, it will likely cause a meltdown and the child may associate the removal of the tablet with bad behavior—even if that isn’t why you’re taking it away!

Schedule TV/tablet time as a regular part of the day. Instead of using it as a bargaining chip, treat tablet or phone usage as something associated with a particular time of day. For example, do you have a toddler who still takes naps during the day and also an older sibling who no longer requires a nap? Use that naptime as “quiet time” for your older child and give your child the tablet to play with during that time and only during that time. They may fuss when you remove the tablet but they know—there will be quiet time tomorrow!

Don’t leave the TV on all day. If nobody in the home is watching the TV, turn it off! If you enjoy having some kind of background noise on, turn on a radio and play music. Children are immediately drawn to the moving pictures on a TV or tablet so by eliminating that distraction it will encourage your child to find other ways to occupy his or her time such as going outside to play, reading a book, or playing with other toys.

Technology can be a great asset for parents and children! There are so many educational opportunities to utilize and many shows for children that teach great social skills. It is important not make technology the boss of the house. With healthy boundaries and clear expectations, you and your children can find a rhythm with iPads and iPhones and TV that will not jeopardize your child’s growth or development.

At Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Henderson - Las Vegas NV, pre-k and preschool students enjoy learning with the interactive and innovative SmartBoard technology! "Why is preschool so important?" For what reason do you and/or your friends send your children to preschool?

Often, when we give tours of our Henderson-Las Vegas Learning Academy, people ask us why they should send their child to our preschool.

Aside from the reasons you can read on our website about why we are so unique, you probably want to hear from other professionals who are unbiased.

Consequently, below are some highlights from a recent article on the subject.  You can find the original linked at the bottom.

Please let us know what it would take to consider us the best preschool near me.  We'd love to hear from you!

    Jason Griffin

4 Common myths about the value of preschool

    1. All the kids do is play games and sing songs.

    • Singing songs encourages speech and language development, enhancing vocabulary and communication skills. Students who struggle with a certain skill (ABCs, counting or math patterns) are able to show mastery through learning a song about it.
    • Playing games is the perfect opportunity for kids of this age to express their curiosity, learn teamwork, practice sharing and develop problem-solving skills.

    2. I can teach all of these things at home.

    • Preschool teachers are highly trained educational professionals and are specifically trained with techniques to enhance a child’s physical, social, emotional, cognitive and language development.
    • They know how to immerse children in engaging learning experiences and have years of experience doing it.

    3. The benefits of preschool don’t last.

    • The first five years are most crucial due to the brain’s ability to make connections.
    • Our capacity to develop vocabulary, a lifelong communication skill, is largely decided by the time we reach age five.

    4. Preschool is only for children from well-off families.

    • Some states fully fund preschool for all children, and many states have legislation in the process to do so.
    • Many schools also offer financial aid to families who make preschool possible.
    • Head Start is an early childhood education program that has been active since 1965 and provides education for children from low-income families from birth to age five.

infant_care_henderson_nv.jpgOne of the most important questions surrounding infant care is at what age can my child be enrolled. Many parents believe that children, including infants, must have some level of development before they can be enrolled in daycare. However, at our Learning Academy, we offer innovative childcare for infants as young as six weeks of age. We can help your child learn both the basics and more advanced lessons in our learning environment and we will care for your infant with our “Hug First, Then Teach” philosophy.

    No enrollment prerequisites

Many typical daycares require that a child be a certain age before enrolling. Our innovative infant care program provides your child with a fun, loving educational experience that is appropriate for very young children, including infants. We have an experienced and caring staff that will ensure the best environment for your infant.

    Choosing a daycare facility

Selecting the right infant care facility is one of the biggest decisions you will make as a new parent. Be sure to ask a lot of questions, such as what is the staff to child ratio, the qualifications of the teachers, and how an average day is structured. Ask if you will be able to drop by unannounced during the day. This will allow you to make sure that your infant is getting the best care possible. Our infant care program offers fun, stimulating, and educational activities that are designed to help your infant reach a variety of developmental milestones.

While the preschool that you choose for your child can provide the right environment for your child’s development, you can promote additional development when you are at home with your child. Here are a few fun activities that can promote your preschool child’s development at home.

All actions and activities can promote healthy development

Your child can learn from almost any activity. Even when sleeping, your child’s brain is collating information and solving problems. Therefore, involve your preschool child in daily activities that can promote learning. You can turn any activity into a fun learning experience by engaging your child’s powerful imagination. For example, you can combine fun, learning and chores by having your child sort toys as he or she puts them away.

    Teaching responsibility and independence

One of the best to teach your child responsibility and independence is to assign chores and projects at home. Your preschool child will be happy to help with chores because it will make him or her feel like an integral part of the family. Participating in chores promotes self-confidence, boosts self-esteem and contributes to learning and development. Start by helping your child with chores and then gradually allow him or her to accomplish the tasks independently.

As many parents know, the early years of childhood are certainly some of the most fun. You will be enjoying countless hours of exciting games with your mobile infant, helping him or her develop and learn everything needed. Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Henderson – Las Vegas, NV, offers some advice about fun games to play with your infant to promote healthy and effective development. These games focus on the development of vital skills and can greatly improve the overall effectiveness of the child care you provide.

    Have fun with music

Music is fun for everyone, including infants. It can also be utilized for effective learning. You can play soft music specifically developed for infants to begin with and, as your infant gets older, you can add different types of music developed for different age groups. You can even turn on your favorite music or the radio and enjoy the music together. You can move your infant’s body to the music and, as your infant becomes mobile, you can hold your infant’s body and begin to teach your child how to dance.

    I-spy with my little eye

This game is excellent for early development as it challenges your infant’s brain to learn in an exciting way. This game can begin once your infant is able to see and focus on nearby objects, such as your face. By observing close surroundings and choosing a particular object, your infant’s brain begins to learn differentiation and identification. This game can also help with rudimentary speech if you sound out the name of the object as your infant is able to see it.

We are always looking for innovative and exciting ways to promote your child’s development. If you would like more details about our excellent infant care services or if you would like to visit, contact us today.

Parents become excited when a child begins to develop and learn about the world. They often wonder what goes on in the child’s brain. Allow us to share some insight with you regarding what your child will be thinking, learning and experiencing throughout the early years of child care, prior to entering a day care or preschool environment.

    Identifying patterns

At three months your child will start identifying and becoming intrigued with patterns. These can be dinosaur patterns on a blanket or even the order and frequency of the animals on your child’s mobile. Encouraging this provides the child with toys and items that have high contrast. This allows your child to begin learning how colors and shapes form tangible objects.

    Intellectual pursuit

In the next developmental stage your child will become more interested in learning about his or her big surroundings. He or she will start asking a lot of questions and exploring the concept of cause and effect. During this time, prior to entering day care or preschool, try your best to adequately answer all questions. Allow the child to explore at a pace that is comfortable. Take the child for a walk outside, but let your child lead. You will observe and begin to understand what interests your child, and why these things are identified as intriguing.

Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Henderson – Las Vegas, also serving Green Valley, offers a unique blend of physical, emotional, social and cognitive development that takes each child’s individuality into consideration. Adults aren’t the only ones that crave calming massages from time to time. Infants find massages deeply relaxing and soothing, too. It is a fact that a baby’s sense of touch is well developed from birth. Many child care specialists around the world have been continuously talking about the benefits of infant massages. This piece will take a look at the benefits of this exercise.

It helps you bond with your baby

By simply massaging your infant, you are creating a close bond that is likely to last a lifetime. Just about every infant care specialist will tell you that bonding with your infant is one of the most important aspects of infant care. This act is just as important as breastfeeding and playing when it comes to mother-baby bonding.

It soothes and calms your baby

Being an infant isn’t always easy, and caring for a new baby can sometimes be quite difficult for parents. Teething pains, hunger, and constant crying can really take a toll on your infants mind and body. A soothing massage can go a long way in helping to calm and relax your child. This is especially useful when your child is teething, as it can significantly lessen pain.

It improves circulation and helps normalize muscle tone

Massages have always been a great way to improve circulation in the human body. They work exactly the same way for infants. They can lead to a healthier heart, radiant looking skin and healthier organs. It also helps normalize your baby’s muscle tone.

There are many fun activities that your child can do to help with brain development. Be sure any activity you choose is age appropriate. At Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Henderson-Las Vegas NV, we offer our exclusive and high quality brain development program for young children. Here we offer a few fun brain developing games you can do with your child at home. These activities all reinforce learning and strengthen neural connections in the brain.

    Mirror game

This is a good way to teach your child about language and communication while reinforcing neural connections. Let your child stand in front of a mirror while you stand behind him or her and point out certain parts of the body. Ask your child to name them. This game will teach your child about body awareness and language.

    Make a book

Collect some of your child’s pictures and have your child paste them in pages to create a book. As you paste the pictures, have your child make up a story. You can then read the book with your child at night and he or she will have a nice memento. This will teach your child about creativity, language and spelling.

    Nurturing activities

Teach your child about nurturing by playing with a toy or taking care of a pet. Show him or her how to nurture through feeding, hugging and rocking or petting it to sleep. If you are using a live animal, be sure to teach your child to take gentle care when handling it and not to pull on its tail. Your child can sing a lullaby which can help to teach language and music skills.
